v18.0 Stable Release #4 - 10 Updated ISOs & Hub Builds - Proxmox/LXC builds

We're thrilled to announce the forth stable release of version 18.0, bringing another 10 updated appliances, including updated ISOs and Hub builds, with Proxmox/LXC support builds as well! This release marks another milestone in our commitment to providing versatile and reliable solutions for our users - albeit a little delayed. FWIW, these have actually been published for a little while, I've just been a bit slow finalising this announcement. Regardless, whether you're running a personal project or managing enterprise-level deployments, this update brings more of our library up to date.

As per usual, these updated appliances can all be found on our mirror network, downloaded from their relevant appliance pages (links below) or they can be launched directly from the Hub (note that 17.x appliances are still the default for now - please see the first announcement for launching v18.0 apps).

v18.0 Update batch details

As probably expected, this release includes the bug fixes from the previous release batch.

Unfortunately, it's also been discovered that all v18.0 appliances released to date (including this batch 🙁) include a buggy Confconsole DNS-01 Let's Encrypt plugin. This plugin is designed to leverage your DNS provider to provide the requisite DNS info to validate that you control the domain. This is a very useful method if your server is not publicly available, but you want "proper" CA signed certificates for your server and avoids those pesky browser warnings. It also the only way to get a wildcard certificate (e.g. *.example.com) - which will match any/all subdomains (of the same level; e.g. *.example.com will work for a.example.com, b.example.com, etc; but not a.b.example.com). Please note that whilst your server can be locally hosted and not available to the public, but it must have outgoing internet - to connect to your DNS provider's API.

The initial release in v18.0 has some issues. However, a new updated and fully functional version has been built and published. This new version can be easily installed by updating it via apt. The version you want is v2.1.4. If you are running a v18.0 TurnKey server, be sure you have that version. To check:

apt policy confconsole

E.g. with the buggy v2.1.2 installed, you should see this:

confconsole:
  Installed: 2.1.2
  Candidate: 2.1.4
  Version table:
     2.1.4 999
        999 http://archive.turnkeylinux.org/debian bookworm/main amd64 Packages
 *** 2.1.2 100
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Simply upgrade with apt. E.g.:

apt update
apt install confconsole -y

Then run Confconsole:

confconsole

Finally select Advanced >> Let's Encrypt >> Get certificate >> DNS-01 and follow the prompts. It may take a few minutes initially, but should set everything up for you.

Many (many) DNS providers are supported, but each one will have slightly different configuration requirements. Please check the details for your specific provider by clicking the relevant link on this page.

Looking Ahead

This release is a part of our ongoing effort to deliver robust, secure, and flexible server solutions. We're already working on the next batch of updated appliances and seeing as I was a bit slow announcing this lot, the next batch should not be too far away. The next batch will include the updated Confconsole - with working DNS-01 LE certs, plus a few other bits and pieces. As always we're guided by your feedback and the evolving needs of all our user base. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, we value your input and support.

Thank you for choosing TurnKey Linux. Happy deployments!
